Constipation really isn’t a laughing matter when it’s something you’ve got. It can be downright horrendous. Not only is it a problem many elderly people face but toddlers and pregnant women do as well. Here are a few things you need to do:
- Eat better. Constipation often comes when you haven’t been eating well.
- Drink more water. Lack of hydration can make it difficult to ‘go’ as well.
- Take your time. If you’re in a big rush to go to the bathroom you aren’t giving your body enough time to relax and that could make it easier to go.

- Prunes. Yes, it’s true. Prunes and prune juice do something to kick your colon in motion.
- Coffee. Sometimes coffee (for adults of course) can stimulate your colon as well.
- Bran. Bran muffins can become part of your regular diet to help you along
- Psyllium. Psyllium fiber in supplements or wafers are a bulking agent that will definitely help keep things moving.
- Corn. Corn is the type of fiber that definitely keeps things going in the right direction.
- Melons. Cantaloupe and watermelon can have a very quick transit time and are very hydrating so not only can they help you ‘go’ but can make stools softer
- Blueberries. Blueberries are full of many health benefits and can be especially helpful for toddlers who will love eating blueberries more than bran.
Whatever methods you use to keep regular, go for natural as much as possible. Taking laxatives that stimulate your colon artificially can have a lasting effect that hurt your bowel tone in the long run. Healthy bodies have a specific type of bowel movements. Consider looking at the bristol stool scale to help you determine what level you’re at if you don’t know if your stools are healthy.
