Diseases and Illnesses: Should You Second Guess Your Doctor?

Published by danaprince at 2:15 pm under Healthy Living Edit This

Last night I watched Mystery Diagnosis on Discovery Health. Hearing tales of woe regarding physicians who misdiagnose life threatening illnesses is terrifying to me as a health conscious person and even more so, as a Mother. Last year my brother in law was diagnosed with Le Mierre’s Syndrome. Luckily the rare condition was caught in time to be treated. It’s often missed and sadly, many people have died due to it not being caught in time.

Doctors are humans and medicine is a vast world to navigate. While many doctors are exemplary at their profession, they are not infallible.

What are the warning signs that your doctor might be missing a critical health problem?

  • You are presenting with more symptoms listed than your supposed condition lists
  • The treatments being given to you are not working
  • Your condition worsens

What should you do if you think your doctor is making an error in judgment?

1. Research. Make sure you learn everything you can about the symptoms you are having, the illness that you have been diagnosed with and match your symptoms up to other conditions that are both mainstream and rare.

2. Get a second opinion and do it FAST.

People have the ability to be in the driver’s seat with their own health by being informed and by second guessing when something just doesn’t feel right.
