Are you listening to your hypothalamus when it tells you that you’re full? A lot of people either don’t give it a chance to communicate with them or eat food that prevents it from doing its job.
A lot of the causes of an unhealthy digestive system result from consuming food too fast. If you are eating on the run all the time and eating mindlessly in front of the TV, you could harm your digestive health and it’ll result in increased portions which could lead to weight gain over time.
Let the hypothalamus tell you when you’re full by taking time to eat. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to get the message so if you wolf down your food in ten minutes, you’re probably going to be on seconds before your brain has had a chance to say it has had enough after the first plate.
Some foods, like high fructose corn syrup can block messages between the hypothalamus and the brain so could result in your overeating anyway. Reduce consumption of foods with this ingredient; especially when it’s near the top of the ingredient list.

With the grapefruit diet from the 1970’s, you eat grapefruit at every meal. Grapefruit can have a big impact on your metabolism. Grapefruit juice can also be helpful but studies show that the maximum benefit for weight loss and good health is from the fruit itself.
Is the grapefruit diet safe?
Of course man cannot live on grapefruit alone but adding grapefruit to your regular diet can be very beneficial with many health benefits and increasing of your metabolism. You need to be extremely careful when taking any medication or supplements while having grapefruit because your metabolism moves so fast that you could overdose on medication. This is especially true with time release drugs because grapefruit will make you metabolise them quickly which could pose a danger to your health.

Some people are weight obsessed but in actuality, having a scale in your home is a very good idea. It’s shown that people who weigh themselves on a regular basis are at less of a risk of becoming morbidly obese than those who choose to go the ostrich route (aka putting head in sand) and not get weighed regularly.
Weighing yourself at least weekly can help you stay within five pounds of your goal weight as you’re less likely to binge beyond a specific amount. While many will gain weight over holidays, having a scale can help you get back on track as you are able to track your progress regularly.
Whether you’re on the road to weight loss or in maintenance mode, a scale for your home can be inexpensive and can even be personalized to your specific goals and body mass index.
Fluctuations
Do realise that your weight can fluctuate up to five pounds throughout the day due to factors like hydration, etc and that fitness can be about more than just the number on the scale too.

The problem with many diets is that the food is bland and leaves you wanting more. This is not so with the sonoma diet. This diet was designed by a nutritionist and takes nutrition and flavour into account above and beyond calories, carbs and fat.
Here is a sampling of the diet’s power foods:
1.almonds
2.bell peppers
3.blueberries
4.broccoli
5.grapes
6.olive oil
7.spinach
8.strawberries
9.tomatoes
10.whole grains.
By trying to eat healthy and choose a diet that not only results in healthier eating but that also leaves you satisfied instead of feeling starved and deprived, you can expect great results. The diet recommends lean meats and has three phases. The third phase is simply a maintenance phase and even allows for the occasional treat that’s not in the previous two waves.
Another key factor of the Sonoma diet is portion size so instead of heaping platters filled with food you might invest in smaller plates and bowls. This diet has been getting positive reviews from people and even from physicians.

We often don’t think about what we eat in terms of math but keeping track of your calories consumed and calories spent can be very helpful in terms of changing your lifestyle. Try tracking for a week and see how you feel. You will probably become very aware of the caloric value of food and the fact that actual serving sizes are a lot smaller than you think.
Websites like fitday.com and others offer free calorie counters where you can input what you’ve eaten and what exercise you’ve done to see if you’re burning the calories you eat. This can be a valuable tool for planning for weight loss as well. For instance, if you plan to eat at a restaurant, you can log your planned meal ahead of time if you know what you plan to order. This can help you stay on track or realise you might have to spend an extra thirty minutes on the treadmill tomorrow.
Food journaling can also help you nutritionally. You can see whether you’re getting recommended values of particular vitamins and minerals as well as see what your fat to protein and carb ratio is. Holding yourself accountable by actually acknowledging what you eat is a huge step in automatically eating better and being more health conscious.

Here are a few tips to help you curb overeating. Eating too much food is a major problem in today’s world. Many countries are plagued with morbid obesity but society continually gives you cues to eat more so here is some help:
-Stop watching commercials. Seriously. Commercials are filled with unhealthy food advertisements that are almost like subliminal messages. Record shows you like to watch and don’t watch the commercials.
-Smaller plates. If you’re eating off a platter sized plate you’re more likely to overfill it. Use smaller dishes.
-Portion control yourself with servings. Make your meat and starch servings smaller and your vegetable portion bigger. You’ll get full faster and eat more low calorie foods
-Drink water. Drink a big glass of water before a meal and you’re less likely to eat seconds
-Make a rule to eat only at the table. No eating in the living room in front of the tv (mindless snacking) or at the computer or anywhere but the table and you’re less likely to overdo it on snacks.
Subtle habit changes can make a big difference to the way you view food!
